When I was four my parents enrolled me in a gymnastics class along with my sister. After the first session my sister had had enough and moved on to soccer. I, however, was hooked. I continued to take gymnastics classes at the Oak Lawn Park District over the next ten years. When I was in eighth grade and set to advance to Level 7 my parents decided the time and financial commitment was too much and I parted ways with the sport. Throughout high school I played volleyball and upon graduating I moved to the Philadelphia area to attend college where I eventually met my husband, Clint.
I rediscovered gymnastics when I signed my stepdaughter, Alyssa, up for her first class when she was two. I began assisting with her preschool class and in 2009 officially joined the staff at The Montgomery County Sports Performance Center in Harleysville, PA. Over the next two years I enjoyed coaching a variety of classes from preschool through Level 4. In December 2011 Clint and I moved to the Champaign area. After realizing the life of CPA just wasn’t for me I have recently returned to school to attain my veterinary technician’s license and Clint is working towards his engineering degree at the University of Illinois. I began working at The Little Gym of Champaign but found myself missing the opportunity to coach kids of all ages and skill levels. I lived in Pennsylvania for six years before I started coaching there. It wasn’t until I started coaching that I finally starting feeling as if I belonged to a community. I had kids who noticed me in the grocery store or at the local carnivals; I was a role model. That was something I strongly desired to establish here in Champaign so when Ian offered me a position to coach at CGA I was thrilled. I strongly believe gymnastics helped shape me into the person I am today and it’s important to me to be coaching at a gym that focuses not only on who our gymnasts are in gym but who they are outside of it as well.
