Frequently asked questions

  • Champaign Gymnastics Academy is located at 219 S. Mattis Avenue. We can be found between University and Springfield in the Country Fair Shopping Center.

  • Have your child wear clothing that allows for movement. Shorts, sweatpants, leggings, t-shirts, tank tops, and leotards are all acceptable. Avoid zippers and buttons and make sure sweatpants are not so long that your child is tripping over them.

Gymnasts with long hair are encouraged to pull their hair back off of their face for safety reasons. Gymnasts in advanced rec classes and team groups will be required to pull their hair back off their face.

Gymnasts should be barefoot in the gym.

  • Arrive as close to your class start time as possible to avoid congestion in the lobby.

  • Parents are not required to remain at the gym for the duration of the class and drop off is recommended for older kids. We do strongly encourage parents of preschoolers to stay in case they need assistance with anything.

  • Any child who misses a class can complete a make-up class as long as there are openings in another class of the same level.

Children cannot makeup in a class different from the one they are enrolled in.

Make ups for missed classes can be made up anytime during the current year. (August 1st – September 1st the following year.)

If you know ahead of time your gymnast is going to be absent from a class, such as for a planned vacation, you can schedule a make-up prior to the missed day.

You must be actively enrolled in a class to use make-ups recorded in your account.

Make-ups are not guaranteed. Availability is based on current enrollment to ensure class ratios are maintained.

Make-ups are only allowed in classes that are not full and therefore must be scheduled with the front desk so we can maintain our class ratios. The reception staff will let you know what classes have openings and whether any make-ups have already been scheduled for a specific class.

Make-ups can be scheduled for the current or following week only.

All make-ups recorded prior to August 21, 2023 will expire January 1, 2024.

  • Your child can transfer classes at any time as long as there are openings in other classes of the same level. You can also waitlist for a preferred time that is full, and staff will inform you if a spot becomes available.

  • THREE-YEAR OLDS

Three-year-olds are given the option to take Toddler (our grown-up assisted class) or Preschool (independent class) due the large development range of children that age.

Parents may choose to sign their three-year old up for either class. However, if their child is unable to independently enter class or cannot complete a preschool class safely, they will be required to switch to a Toddler class.

    FIVE-YEAR OLDS

Children will graduate out of our Gym for Tiny Humans at some point after they turn five years old.

Five-year-olds not yet in Kindergarten with birthdays between December-May are strongly encouraged to remain in a preschool class until their coach recommends Junior Beginner Girls.

  • PRESCHOOL

If your child turns five years old while enrolled in the preschool program, they will have the opportunity to progress to a school-age rec class in the following graduation cycle. We graduate preschoolers to the school-age rec program three times per year in January, June, and mid-August.

MOVING LEVELS IN SCHOOL-AGE REC CLASSES

Coaches are continually evaluating their gymnasts on a comprehensive list of skills required for each level. When your child can consistently demonstrate their current level's evaluation skills, they advance to the next level. When your child is ready to advance, their coach will provide you with a recommendation card for the next level.

  • We love to hear from our members here at CGA and fully encourage open communication between our staff and parents. Coaches are available the 5 minutes before and after classes to answer any questions you might have about the class, your child's progress, etc. We encourage you to talk to your child's coach first as they will be able to give you the most insight into your child's development here at CGA. Additionally, feel free to contact any of the following staff members:

Ashley Lebeau - Director of Recreational Gymnastics
    ashley@champaigngym.com

    Ian Dennehy - Owner
    ian@champaigngym.com

  • If CGA chooses to close due to inclement weather, road conditions, or other emergent situations, all students will be marked absent and can schedule a makeup class on a future date.

Cancellation of all classes (preschool, recreational, and competitive classes) will be communicated through email and the CGA Facebook page.

Please Note: We do not always follow school closings for weather-related closures as roads and weather can improve by evening class times.
